There's a "continuation" of Battle Through the Heavens where the author wrote a bit on Xiao Yan in his latest book Da Zhu Zai where Xiao Yan and his family moved from his home world (which is considered as one of the lower realms) to the Da Qian Shi Jie (a higher realm where the stronger level humans are like clouds in the sky(for example, there are at least 15 Dou Di levels in that world)) and he kinda created a passage where people from his home world are able to travel to this new world. He reigns in one of the lands as the Flame Emperor Xiao Yan, and with his might and powers, he is considered as one of the top experts in that world.
To be able to fully read Da Zhu Zai however, you would need to read his second book,or manhua.
Xiao Yan
Xiao Yan marries Xun Er and Medusa. He sires a daughter with Medusa and a son with Xun Er.
Yan Ran breaks off their marriage engagement and humiliates Xaio Yan, he responds by saying he'll divorce her instead and challenges her to a duel which will take place 3 years later. Yao Lao makes his appearance before him and takes him as his disciple.
In order to ensure that Xiao Yan has enough power to face Yan Ran who is being nurtured by the Yun Lan Sect, Xiao Yan and Yao Lao went on a journey to train. At that time, he was only 14-15 years old.
To prepare Xaio Yan to defeat Yan Ran, who is being nurtured by the "Misty Cloud Sect", Yao Lao takes Xaio Yan off on a journey to train. During this time he manages to absorb the Geocentric Lotus Flame, and gets a Seven-Colored Heavenly Sky Swallowing Serpant as a pet(Medusa). He encounters some people affiliated with the Misty Cloud Sect and to defeat them develops a new technique. He fuses his flames and uses it as a bomb, the explosion was too great and Yao Lao uses up all his energy protecting Xaio Yan causing Yao Lao to enter a deep slumber. Xiao Yan tries many medicines to resuscitate Yao Lao to no avail.
He goes to face Yan Ran in their promised duel and comes out victorious. Yan Ran declares that she does not regret what she did and does not want to marry a stranger. Xiao Yan rebukes her saying he never cared about her breaking off the engagement, but the way she went about it. Yan Ran humiliated him needlessly when all she needed to do was decline their engagement in a civil manner. Xiao Yan then declares their conflict resolved, saying they are now strangers who have nothing to do with each other. Xiao Yan then tries to leave the sect but is stopped by one of the elders who accuse him of killing members of their sect. After an intense battle Yun Shan decides to let Xaio Yan leave. However after returning home he learns of the Misty Cloud Sect's involvement in the kidnapping of his father and the death's of clan members. Enraged he charges back to the Misty Cloud Sect demanding answers. He manages to kill the elder involved in the attack but is badly injured by Yun Shan. As he's about to die Yao Lao awakens and saves Xaio Yan, managing to escape.
Having one of the greatest sects within the Jia Empire after his life, Xiao Yan leaves the Jia Empire and goes to the Jia Nan Academy. He reunites with Xun Er and makes his way into the Inner Hall of the Academy where he trains diligently. He builds up connections with people, establish the faction "Pans Gate", and battles his fellow students. His time with Xun Er is short since her clan requests her to return home. Xun Er tells him to reach the Dou Zong state before he chases after her. Xaio Yan stays behind and tries to obtain his second heavenly flame, the "Fallen Heart Flame". Noticing the seal of the flame growing weaker, Yao Lao's former apprentice, Hen Feng, launches a campaign against the academy in order to obtain it. Xaio Yan manages to fight him off, but the seal breaks and the flame goes on a rampage. Using himself as bait he gets the flame to chase him back into the lava pits and gets the elders to reseal the flame. He spends a year trying to overcome and absorb the Fallen Heart Flame. He succeeds but as a side effect of absorbing the flame he loses all reason and ends up raping the weakened Medusa.
Emerging from the pit his strength jumps to a Dou Wang. Learning Yun Shan has been proactively hunting down the Xaio Clan he returns to the Jia Empire to settle the score. After a fierce battle Xaio Yan brutally beats Yun Shan to death. As Yun Shan's life comes to a close the soul clan intervenes and succeeds in capturing the souls of Yun Shan and Xaio Yan's teacher Yao Lao. Yao Lao knowing that his capture is unavoidable entrusts everything he owns to Xaio Yan. His vast treasures, pill recipes, and most importantly the Chilling Bone heavenly flame. Xaio Yan despairs over losing his teacher, but currently is unable to do anything about it, brings his attention to Yun Yun and the Misty Cloud Sect. Since he cares for Yun Yun he allow's the members of the sect to live, but demands the sect to be disbanded.
After killing Yun Shan, Yun Lan Sect was disbanded, the Flame Alliance was created. Xiao Yan went into training mode for 1 year to breakthrough to 1* Dou Huang. During this time, neighboring country invaded and was led by his friend Xiao Yi Xian. After confronting her, Xiao Yan managed to get her to stop the invasion by convincing her that he can help her gain control over her poison body. From then on, Xiao Yi Xian followed Xiao Yan quite a numbered of years mainly due to her feelings for him, but Xiao Yan was thick as a wood block and didn't know. Xiao Yan managed to help Xiao Yi Xian gain control of her poison body being the very first in the world to be able to do that. normally people with poison body, gets to level up really fast but once they hit a certain limit / time, they die to their own poison.
Xiao Yan, Zi Yan and Xiao Yi Xian go back to Jia Nan Academy where he refines a Tier 7 pill for Medusa's pregnancy and discovers another Fallen Heart Flame bud underneath the Academy owned by a soul who he befriends and later crafts a body for, Venerable Tian Huo (Dou Zun). He leaves the flame for the academy and discovers a secret linked to the Tuó shě but leaves it behind. He crafts a puppet with a 7* Dou Zong corpse which absorbs his pill lightning to rank up. He meets a girl Xin Lan who takes him to Central Continent, he gets separated from his friends and he has an enmity with Wind Thunder Pavilion because of the 3000 Lightning Movement. He steals an evolved version from them and befriends a Golden Devouring Rat clan who let him use their Volcanic pool to breakthrough to Dou Zong. He meets Venerable Feng who tells him Yao Chen is also a Master of Star Meteor Hall. He meets Xun Er and obtains the complete Enforcing Emperor Seal from her, she tells him to only visit her clan when he has become a Dou Zun. He visits burning valley and refines a Tier 7 pill for them and receives the "complete" Skyfire Three Mysterious Change (they think it is complete, it is later revealed not to be). Xiao Yan competes in the Pill Tower competition against Old Man Mu Gu of Soul Hall (he was a rival of Yao Chen and he took the Sea Heart Flame from Han Feng) and wins by refining a Tier 8 pill with 5 colored-lightning. Zi Yan appears and gives him a seal to help absorb the Three Thousand Star Fire Flame.
After absorbing it, he learns of his master's location and has enough man power to rescue him. He rescues him and after healing from his injuries becomes a Dou Zun. He goes to an ancient cave and obtains parts of a Dou Sheng's skeleton and a Tian Dou skill hidden in it, and meets Qing Lin again. He uses parts of the skeleton and a 4* Dou Zuns skeleton to forge a body for his Master allowing Yao Chen to become a Ban Sheng. Yao Chen gives him the Bone Chilling Flame. He meets Yanran and helps Yun Yun win a match that makes her the leader of the Flower Sect (an all female sect). He helps rescue Zi Yan from a crystalline state (she was trying to absorb a Dragon-Pheonix fruit) in the Void Dragon Realm and she implants Dragon-Pheonix bloodlines into him. The void dragons reward him with a skill that allows him to manifest dragon scales. He is invited to the Gu clan's coming of age ceremony where he fights an 8* Dou Zun (Xiao Yan is 5* here) with very pure Dou Di blood (only a few have purer blood than him). He enters his ancestor's Tomb with Xun Er and obtain's his clan's final Dou Di bloodlines which mixes with the dragon-pheonix blood and Xun Er's pure Dou Di blood in his body. He regains the Xiao Clan's ancient Clan Mark and Xun Er reveals that she knows about Medusa (I think she punishes him by biting him?). He returns to Jia Ma empire to rescue the Flame Alliance from the Soul Palace (part of the Hun Clan) and meets his daughter (Xiao Xiao) for the first time. He marries Medusa and brings them to the Central Continent.
After going through many ordeals, Xiao Yan climbed from:

*While refining Tuo She's Dou Di legacy (a lotus seed of all heavenly flames), Xiao Yan's physical body exploded into pieces numerous times and he had to pull it back together with his Emperor soul. He still felt the pain.
*The reason why there was no more Dou Di in the world for thousand and thousands of years is because of the missing element that will allow 9* Dou Sheng to break through to Dou Di and that missing element is known as Yuan Qi, it has a limited amount and the very last amount of Yuan Qi was already already used up by Ancient Emperor Tuo She, the last Dou Di. Hun Tian Di managed to get to Dou Di only through a Di class pill and Xiao Yan get to Dou Di level through the Ancient Emperor Tuo She's inheritance.
*It was believed that at the EoS it is no longer possible for anyone to step in to Dou Di class anymore. Although at the end he senses the Yuan Qi from other realms and breaks the seal placed on their plane, replenishing it.
*When one reached 9* Dou Zun, they have to refine and compress their Dou Qi in the final step 9 times and only then do they have a chance to breakthrough to Ban-Sheng (Half-Saint)
*Ancient Budhi Tree has 3 great treasures: The Budhi Heart Fruit, Budhi Seed and a very special chance where you get to experience a 100 lifetimes = train for 100 lifetimes.
About the Yin Yang Dragon Pill (7th rank pill), this pill will help him after he had a fight till near death with the Tianzun (5* Dou Zun) Zhai Xing of the Hall of Souls (he blew off an arm of that Tianzun) with the 4 colored buddha lotus flame, rescued Yao Lao, and returned to the Star Hall.
Before the EoS, he obtained 6 Essence Flame: Blue Lotus Geocentric Flame, Falling Heart Flame, Three Thousand Stars Fire Flame, Chilling Bone Flame, Sea Heart Flame and Purifying Lotus Demon Flame.
At the end however he commanded all 22 Essence flames as the Flame Emperor.
After he absorbed the Blue Lotus Geocentric Flame, TB advanced to Xuan Middle Class. After absorbing the Fallen Heart Flame, TB advanced to Di Low Class. After absorbing the Three Thousand Star Fire Flame, TB advanced to Di Middle Class. After absorbing the Bone Chilling Flame, TB would advanc to Quasi-Tian Class. After absorbing the Sea Heart Flame, TB would advance to Low Tian Class. After absorbing the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame, TB would advance to High Tian Class (TB stands for Terminal Blaze).
After obtaining these 6 flames, the merged Essence Flames gained a human-like conscious and then took form of a cute-baby flame (... just like the 1st flame and the 2nd flame, they have ability to change into a human-form). Yan called it Little Yi. Little Yi can automatically and effortlessly creates 2-colours Fury Buddha Lotus and has perfect control over the Essences Flame within.
After inherited some of the first flame will, he became Dou Di with control of 22 Essence flames he summoned to defeat Hun Tian Di.
Yao Lao (Yao Chen)
After Xiao Yan refined a body for him using the right arm of the Dou Sheng Zhao-Hua, a Bone Growing Blood Fusing Pill, the corpse of a 4-star Dou Zun, and the essence blood of a high rank Heaven Demon Phoenix, his Dou Qi rank increased to that of a Half-Saint (high rank). He then gave his essence flame (Bone chilling flame) to Xiao Yan, stating that he will need it more and that it wasn't useful to him (he lied).
Yao Lao used to be a clan member of the Yao clan, one of the Eight ancient clans with Dou Di blood flowing in their veins. However, he was kicked out because his Dou Di bloodine was weak. He was a tier 8 receptarier before he was murdered by Han Feng. Towards the end, Xiao Yan gives him Han Feng's soul in a bottle to do with as he pleases.
Throughout the story it was quite obvious that Yao Lao had lived for more than 100 years. When he was still alive, he was very famous throughout the Dou continent due to his Receptarier skills. After Xiao Yan visited the Gu clan's Gu realm, a member of the Yao Clan gave him an official invitation for Yao Chen to visit/return to the clan. He breaks through with the essence blood (of a 9* Dou Sheng who has 1 foot into Dou Di tier) to 1* Dou Sheng when Xiao Yan is a 2* Dou Sheng. When Xiao Yan wins the title of 1st Alchemist in the Yao clan's competition, he is permitted to carve his parents' names onto the Clan Stele (his life ambition and parents' dying wish), the highest clan achievement. However because of the Hun clan's attack, he is one of a handful of the Yao clan's surviving members.
Medusa (Cai Lin)
Xiao Yan's first wife. Her name "Cai Lin" was given to her by Xiao Yan.
Though cold and demanding at first, being witness to everything Xaio Yan accomplishes she eventually warms up to him.
Cai Lin was the name Xaio Yan gave to the seven colored serpent that was born when Medusa makes her attempt to evolve using the Geometric Flame.
After Xiao Yan succeeds in defeating Yun Shan, dismantling the Misty Cloud Sect and establishing the Yan/Flame alliance he is summoned to meet the snakemen clan elders who have found out that Medusa is no longer a virgin. Though not 100% sure at the time they suspect her to be with child. The elders let go of any grievances due to Xiao Yan's position within the Jia Empire but requests he makes a pill that would help nurture the child within her womb. The pill required is a tier 7th high rank pill that would be of great help to the child. Medusa takes a nonchalant attitude and says it's fine if Xiao Yan doesn't want to raise the child or even make the pill, declaring he is free to do as he pleases. Nonetheless Xiao Yan promises to deliver the pill in 2 years time, which he does.
Due to humans and snake-men being different species pregnancy is also different. Snake-men need about 2 years to confirm if a woman is with child and on top of that another 2 to 3 years to be born.
And with big luck, she has found a treasure to her blood, a special Seven-Colored Origin Stone. And after that, she discovered this stone actually has nine colors, which required over 100 Seven-Colored Heavenly Sky Swallowing Serpent to die together to make it. With this stone, she becomes a Nine-Colored Heavenly Sky Swallowing Serpent that is comparable to the Ancient Void Dragons. She trains in the Nine-Underworld Pool for 3 years and comes out a 4* Dou Sheng from 9* Dou Zun
At the EoS, she was a 7 stars Dou Saint, before Dou Di.
Xiao Xiao (Cai Xiao)
Xiao Xiao is the daughter of Xiao Yan and Medusa, she was a Dou Zong at birth, she was even better than her father at leveling up, because she was half human and half snakemen. When Xiao Yan became Dou Di, her Xiao Clan's Dou Di Blood activated and make her become a 8 stars Dou Saint.
In the Light-Novel, when Xiao Xiao (Cai Xiao) was born, a cute little snake soul was always around her, with this, Xiao Xiao has a special link with the snake thus allowing her to borrow Xiao Cai's strength which is why Xiao Xiao was at Dou Zong at birth.
At the EoS, she is a Dou Saint 8 stars due to the Dou Di blood awaken in her.
Xiao Lin (Gu Lin)
Xiao Lin is the son of Xiao Yan and Xun Er, and he only appeared at the EoS. He posseses the Xiao Clan's Dou Di Blood and the Gu Clan's Dou Di Blood. And he levels up fast, like his big-sis Xiao Xiao.
Xun Er (Gu Xun Er)
Xun Er is from the Gu Clan of the 8 Ancient Clans. She possesses the purest Dou Di bloodline (divine bloodline) of the clan and is the daughter of the head of the Gu Clan. She is the first clan member in a thousand years to have the divine Dou Di bloodline, giving her more authority in the clan. She has been secretly spying on Xiao Yan throughout his journey, although this is not shown much in the manhua. She possesses the 4th Ranking Essence Flame, the Golden Emperor Sky Burning Flame. Due to having Dou Di blood in her veins, she can increase her level quite fast until she reaches the Dou Sheng class.
Xun Er is about 28-30 at the EoS. She married Xiao Yan after the final battle. She could be a 7-8 stars Dou Saint
Tai Wei Gu Long(太虚古龙) (Ancient Void Dragon) tribe
Tai Wei Gu Long, literally Great Virtual Ancient Dragon, is the most powerful Magical Beast tribe. It is said that the strongest dragon of this tribe, the Long Huang, or Dragon Emperor as its peak is comparable to a Dou Di. Members of Great Virtual Ancient Dragon tribe have the ability to manipulate space better than humans. One good example is Zi Yan, she can break through any kind of space seal or barriers created by human Dou Zong with ease. Their habitat is in the empty space. One would have to tear a hole in the fabric of space to get to their island, the Ancient Dragon Island. There are at least 10 known Dou Sheng level dragons in this clan, including Zi Yan and her father.
This clan has existed for very long time, more than 10000 years old at least, considering that the previous clan head( Zi Yan's father) had not known about the 8 Ancient Clans. He does know more about the last Dou Di than the rest of the characters in the current time though.
Zi Yan
After Xiao Yan killed Yun Shan and created the Flame Alliance, Zi Yan followed Xiao Yan and Medusa to the demon mountain forest. They come to the forest because she needed medical herbs and fruits to ascend. One year later, she breaks through to the Dou Huang class. And this time, they met with Xiao Yi Xian, a Dou Zong Poison Master.
Half way through the story, Zi Yan realises she was a member of the Great Virtual Ancient Dragon tribe (Tai Wei Gu Long), the Void Dragons (they can freely warp space to move between places) and her father was the previous Ancient Dragon tribe's Emperor. However the previous Dragon emperor was missing for a long time and this caused internal discord, causing the Ancient Dragon island (it exists in an empty space realm which is why there is rarely news about them) was split into the North, South, East, West Dragon Islands. Having the purest blood of the Great Virtual Ancient Dragon Clan, Zi Yan decides to take up the throne and with Xiao Yan's help, she managed to unite all the islands and reunify the tribe. He also helps her absorb a Dragon-Phoenix Origin Fruit that allows her to become an initial 4* Dou Sheng.
During her tribe's civil war, she is able to summon the Slaughter Dragon Sword (at 4* Dou Sheng Initial Phase, a feat not supposed to be possible till a royal family member is 6* Dou Sheng ) which is basically kryptonite to any member of the dragon race as it ignores rank and can slice through their scales like butter.
Towards the end, they encounter her father who had been trapped in the Ancient Tomb of Tuo She and they reunite. He is a 9* Dou Sheng Late Phase, and had been on the edge of becoming a Dou Di for centuries.
After be captured to Heavenly Snake Mansion to become the "holy woman", when Xiao Yan and Qing Ling met with each other, she was a 1* Dou Zun. Her special eyes, the Triple Jade Green Snake Flower Pupils allow her to slowly refine Dou Qi from those under her control (she can only control snake Magical Beasts however), the Nine Underworld Python tribe hunts her for this reason. Ever since they met again, Qing Ling stayed with Xiao Yan.
At the EoS, she becomes 1-2* Dou Sheng
Ancient Clans.
Gu clan, Hun clan, Yao Clan, Yan clan, Xiao clan, Ling clan, Shi clan and Lei clan.
These are the 8 great clans from the far distant past that still have the Dou Di blood flowing in most, if not all, of their members. Dou Di blood is a magnificent blood that can increase the speed of training up to the Dou Saint class. That is why in these clans they have numerous people who are Dou Wang, Huang, Zong. Dou Saints however are only about 2-10 people depending on the clan.
Xiao Clan used to be one of the eight ancientclans. This clan was one of the 3 most powerful in the continent until a certain event drained them of their Dou Di bloodline.
These ancient clans each possess an eighth of a jade token which is the key to a Dou Di tomb. In this tomb lies the secret of how to become a Dou Di.
Towards the end, the Hun clan abducts the entire Ling, Shi and most of the Yao clans' members to drain their Dou Di blood to be used for a Di ranked pill to turn Hun Tian Di into a Dou Di.
Xiao Xuan
One of the greatest ancestors of the Xiao Clan. He existed 1000 years ago and would still be alive if not for the Hun clan, the creator of Spirit Hall ambushing him, then attacking the weakened Xiao clan, causing the entire clan decline to what is known as the Xiao family today. When he was alive, he was at the peak of the continent, a 9* peaked Dou Sheng Late Phase, one step a way from Dou Di. (Only 4 others could be comparable to him at the time, one of which was the leader of the ambush)
When he sensed that the Xiao Clan's Dou Di bloodline was in the verge of disappearing, he attempted to advance to the Dou Di class by absorbing all of the clan's Dou Di Blood, causing the Xiao Clan's Di Blood to dry up. When he was advancing, however, Hun Tian Di and the Hun Clan came and ambushed him, which contributed to one of many reasons that Xiao Xuan failed and died, but before dying, he critically wounded Hun Tian.
It is revealed that Xiao Xuan actually possessed 3 Essence/Heavenly Flames when he was alive, which he suppressed through sheer force since he didn't have the Terminal Blaze/ Flame Mantra (and forcefully exploded them during his battle with the Hun clan).
Xiao Chen
Xiao Chen was Xiao Xuan's junior cousin and one of the most feared member of the old Xiao Clan. When Xiao Clan was destroyed, Xiao Chen was trapped in the illusion of Purifying Lotus Demon Flame so he survived -partly -to the Xiao Yan 's time. His dou rank is 5 stars Dou Sheng when he meets Xiao Yan, he was around 4* a thousand years ago but if he hadn't been captured by Purifying Lotus and continued normal training then he could have been 6 stars, perhaps even 7.
Yun Yun
She became 9* Dou Zun stars perhaps even half-saint as the end, also the leader of a very powerful group call Flower Sect.
Feng Zun Zhe - Feng Xian
Feng Xian (Yan called him as Feng Lao) was a best friend of Yao Lao, he and Yao Lao was created the Falling Star Pavilion together (Yao Lao was the Pavilion Chief).
After Yao Lao 's death, Feng Xian questioned Han Feng many times about Yao Lao's death but to no avail. Han Feng then fled to the north west region of the continent to hide.
He had had a few encounters with spirit hall as he think they are the main suspect.
Ya Fei
She became the main auctioner of Flame Alliance that Xiao Yan has created. At the end of story, she becames a Dou Huang through training and consumption of pills, feared by many due to her position in the Flame Alliance.
She is also invited to live with Xiao Yan at the end.
One Hall, One Tower, Two Sects, Three Valleys, Four Pavilions
These are the most well known or infamous in some cases leading forces (at least on the surface) of the Dou Qi continent
One Tower refers to Pill Tower, a heaven in the heart of every receptarier except for Yao Clan's receptarier. They have at least 4 9th level receptairier there, 2 Dou Saint level Dou Qi(one is 1 stars while the other is 6 stars). The 6* Dou Sheng is revealed to actually be a 9th Rank Gold Pill who enjoys being reborn to "experience the cycle of life".
One Hall refers to the Hal of Soulsl, Hall of Souls is created by Soul Clan with the sole purpose of hunting souls for them to eat, to mend Hun Tian Di wound in the battle against Xiao Xuan and also to make Ethereal Swallowing Flame soul 's level go up to Di level. The overall strength of Spirit hall are countless Dou Zong level fighters, about 50 Dou Zun level (give or take 5 or 6), 2 Ban Sheng, 1 5* Dou Sheng level and one 6* Dou Sheng. Plus some backup from Soul Clan in case of extreme emergency (4 8* Dou Sheng). The temples of Spirit Halls are well hidden across the continent center, each of them has at least 1 Dou Zon guarding. The clan leader, Hun Tian is 9* Dou Sheng Late Phase, the Void Swallowing Flame (2nd Ranked Flame) is also a member of the clan, he is 9* Dou Sheng as well.
Two Sects refer to Flower Sect and Profound Sky Sect, each have the strongest level fighter at the level of Half Saint.
Three Valleys refer to Burning Flame Valley, Ice River Valley and Sound Valley. These three valleys is about the same level with the Two sects with Burning Flame Valley being the strongest seeing as there is pretty much no mention of Sound Valley.
Four Pavilions refer to the four well known forces: Falling Star Pavilion, Ten Thousand Sword Pavilion, Yellow Spring Pavilion and Wind Lightning Pavilion. Each of these Halls has the strongest member is a Dou Zun but the Falling Star Pavilion has 2 Dou Zun instead of one thanks to Yao Lao as Yao Lao created it. Note: It may be Four Courts, and Star Hall may be Starfall or Fallen Star Hall, as their HQ is in a meteorite crater.
Five Families
Five Families refer to five families of receptariers that founded the Pill tower. Now though, they are more or less dependent on the pill tower to continue their life style. Unlike other forces there is a large power disparity between them, as their true power is derived from: fighting power of their members, their sphere of influence, number of alchemists of rank 7 or above, and allies who rely on said alchemy. While individually their fighting power ranges from somewhere between weaker than the Four Pavilions to equivalent to Ice River Valley, because of their aforementioned influence and their ties to Pill Tower they are considered untouchable by all except the main powers (Pill Tower, Soul Temple, Ancient Clan, Void Dragons, Demonic Phoenixes) and the Five Families themselves. They each hold an elder's seat in Pill Tower (1/2 of total seats I think) and must continually prove their worthiness by having their heirs compete in a test every so often (decade maybe). The young receptariers must be no older than 30 and be at least a rank 7 receptarier

Major events
After his arrival at Jia Nan Academy he conquers both the Outer and Inner Academy. The Inner Academy is where the Fallen Heart Flame is contained and used to increase the Qi cultivation speed of worthy students. Eventually the seal on the flame breaks and the Fallen Heart Flame goes berserk. Xiao Yan ends up subduing and absorbing the flame, granting him his second Heavenly Flame.
Earning the gratitude of his fellow students and teachers after fighting off incursions from the Black Horn Territory, Xiao Yan learns of Yun Shan's persecution of Xiao Clan members. Furthermore he learns Yun Shan plans on marrying off Yun Yun to Gu He after she refuses to fight Xiao Yan. Furious, Xiao Yan leads an attack force into the Jia Ma Empire for his showdown with Yun Shan.
They arrive just in time to save the Miteer family and interrupt the wedding. Xiao Yan defeats Gu He and Gu He retreats. After a fierce deathmatch Xiao Yan emerges victorious.
To ease the fears that Xiao Yan will become another Yun Shan an alliance is established that would serve as the governinng body for the kingdom and the northwest region. The alliance manages to incorporate the Miteer family, the royal family, and even manages to win over the Alchemist Guild lead by Fa Ma. The alliance is declared the Yan or Flame alliance.
Xiao Yan decides to go into a training retreat to break through to Dou Huang. During this one year period the Jia Ma Empire is attacked by forces led by Xiao Yi Xian, seeking a cure for her poisonous body. After meeting with Xiao Yan all hostilities cease when she learns he can help her cure her condition.
Xiao Yan tries to get one of the ingredients, Bodhisattva Saliva, from an auction in the Black Horn Territory, where after the auction they try to fight over it and Xiao Yan eventually obtains it. In this story arc, he gets a lot of Dou skills, equipment & treasure from the auction (Dou skills and a Heaven Demon Phoenix corpse, where he gets its wings); and a treasure hunt from a store house of a defeated opponent (refinement formula for a Demon Puppet and more Dou skills). He uses these items later in the story.
He later travels through a space tunnel to the Central plains in order to obtain another essence flame but ends up getting separated from his group after encountering a space storm.
He then gets involved with several powerful groups while there (makes enemies with the Wind Lightning, Pavilion, Ice River Valley who try to hunt down Xiao Yi Xian for her unique body and the Heaven Demon Phoneix tribe). He also meets Venerable Feng, Yao Chen's best friend and discovers his master is one of the founders of Star Hall. There are more events that occur afterwards: such as fighting Tempest Hall, helping Burning Flame (Immolation) Valley refine the Fire Bodhisattva Pill, a tier 7th high rank pill and being rewarded with the complete SkyFire 3 Mysterious Change, becoming the champion of The Pill Gathering and receiving the right to subdue the Three Thousand Fire Flame, attacking a middle-class Hall of Souls branch hall in order to save his master, going to the Gu Clan to see Xun Er, receiving his inheritance and fighting the Soul Clan (Spirit Hall) in an all out war. He is the first person in the current time to obtain an Emperor Level Soul which allows him to battle 8* Dou Shengs when he is still a 6* Dou Sheng.
At the End of the Story(EoS)
At the end of the story there is a big battle between Dou Di Xiao Yan and Hun Tian Di (soul clan patriarch) which is won by Xiao Yan who detonates his physical body to seal Hun Tian Di's soul in the essence flame to be refined/destroyed.
The Heavenly Mansion Alliance remains as the dominant force in central plains and new forces/sects spring up from the destruction. Xiao Yan holds an official wedding ceremony with his wives and refines a new body for himself 2 years later.
The Xiao Family is now thriving again now that they have Dou Di blood activated.
Xiao Yan, Xun Er and Medusa retire from the scene, live in Wu Dan City with their children Xiao Xiao and Xiao Lin. Xiao Yan then invites Ya Fei, Xiao Yi Xian, Yun Yun to live with him in Wutian City. There is no mention of Qing Ling.
He later infers that the reason all Dou Di were missing was because they left and the reason essence Di Qi(Yuan Qi) was missing was because their plane had been sealed and couldn't replenish it. He cultivates for half a year and breaks the seal, creating a passage to parts unknown. Gu Xuan and Zhu Ku then sense the Yuan Qi at the other side of the passage and Xiao Yan feels he can progress even further.
Xiao Yan ,his wives and daughter went to Great Thousand worlds which is a finished (untranslated) story. He, Lin dong and the MC of The Great Ruler become the 3 strongest characters of the thousand planes after killing the Fiend God.
Information on other series
In the Wu Dong Qian Kun(the 2nd story of Tian Can Tu Dou)'s EoS, Lin Dong and Lin Dong's wife and sister happened to see Xiao Yan and Xiao Yan's wives, Lin Dong and Xiao Yan waved hand with each other and enter the entrance of the Great Thousand Worlds, and then continue their own light.
In The Great Ruler, Xiao Yan has been called as the Flame Emperor(Flame Di), and Yan had became a Tian Zhi Zun (a great tittle of the strongest). And Mu Chen (the MC of The Great Ruler) accidentaly met with both Xiao Xiao (Cai Xiao) and Lin Dong's daughter, and they become friends (the girls didn't know each other, because Mu Chen met them in two different period of time).
In chapter 1073 of The Great Ruler, Yao Lao, Xiao Yan, Xun-Er appeared in the half below of the chapter. Yao Lao and Xiao Yan played chess together.
In chapter 1178, Xiao Yan appeared to fight against a Demon Emperor.
At the end of The Great Ruler, he and Lin Dong of WDQK write their names in the Sky List making them and the MC the only 3 Overlord Sovereigns.
The Tuó shě gǔ dì
Tuó shě gǔ dì (Ancient Emperor Tuo She) is the last Dou Di known, he was also the No.1 Essence flame. Different from other Essence flames, it need 1000 of years to form, another 10000 years to have a mind, 100 000 000 more years of natural training that in turn making it became mutated.
Normal Essence Flames don't leave wherever the place they are born but this one does. After gaining sentience, it luckily picked up Terminal Blaze and learned it, therefore begin it's journey of hunting Essence flame one by one until one day it became Dou Di, in the Ancient Emperor Tuo She's cave there are 20 Essence Flame from number 4 to 23 .
His chamber is in the deep underground of Jia Nan Academy, should be at least 10000 meters deep.
1. 陀舍古帝 - Ancient Emperor Flame
Appearance: This flame was Tuó shě gǔ dì himself. He became the King of the Essence Flames. He looked like a middle-age man, and he has the hair with 21 colors as the other 21 essence flames.
Location:
User: He Didn't have any master, his original flame is unknown, and accidentally found Terminal Blaze and learned it, he is also unaware of who created the Qi Method.
Ability: He was living for millions of years to awake and have gain intelligence. After awakening, he found the Terminal Blaze and after that, he was wandering and eating the other flames one by one, from the 23th to the 4th, he trapped them all in his Tomb but the Di Basic-stage pill (human-form) helped the 2nd and 3rd essence flame in his cave until to escape because they promised to return to free him, but they never did.
And, he was the strangest Dou Di in the continent, because he was a flame, he didn't have any descendant with the Dou Di Blood like other ancient clans.
Different Rankings
A Dou Zhe-ranked practitioner has a Dou Qi that is in gas form, when the gas is condensed into a liquid form (a droplet), the cultivator advances to the Dou Shi rank. It takes a lot of gas before liquid in the form of droplets is formed. When there are about 15 droplets or more of this liquid, a Dou Qi sphere starts to solidify. When the practitioner became Dou Great Master, all the Dou Qi is unified in to one sphere, also that's why only when they reach Dou Great master they can start making Dou Qi armor.
The total Dou Qi neede to go from dou Great Master to Dou Ling is equal to all the Dou Qi that a Dou Da Shi get from star 1 to star 9. Then the sphere in their inner body grow up 9 spikes, each spike represent 1 star. When leveled up 1 star, one spike would go back to the sphere. When all the spikes go down, a dou ling would have the chance to become dou Wang.
Around 2-3 stars of Dou Huang=6 Dou Da Shi stars (when Xiao Yan use Heavenly Fire Three Mysterious Change first change in Dou Huang it gave him that total of boost but when he use the same technique at Dou Da Shi it let him get to Dou Ling level).
Dou Qi of 3 stars of Dou Zong =Dou Qi of (6 stars Dou Ling + 9 stars Dou Wang)
5 Stars Dou Zong=2 stars Dou Venerate=2/3 of 1 star in Dou Sheng
The time it took to get up 1 star in Dou Zong normally took years.
Xiao Yan however got boosted a lot.
Power Upgraded:
from Dou Shi, they have a small energy shield for absorbing and defending but not as much good as the armor
from Dou Da Shi and up they can start having armor
from Dou Wang and up: can sprout wings from Dou Qi
from Dou Zong: start to manipulate space to protect stuff or covered a large area to hide some thing and walk on air
Dou Zun:create space tunnels, space tunnel can greatly reduced time to travel from one place to another
Dou Saint: Can create an entire realm( Country sized as least) and freezes time in a small distance.
Dou Di: Open tunnels to other Dimension, slow or speed time a lot (created a realm where time flow 3 times faster)
High ranked pill characteristics
These are the things that would happen when making certain level pills:
5th ranked: a strong smell of herb appear, 5th level of Mortal soul
6th ranked: a blast of energy would be released, nature act abnormal
7th ranked: Lighting is form, the greater density, the better the Pill
8th ranked: Multi colors lightning is formed, there are nine colours in total. The pill that can form nine-colored lightning is the highest 8th ranked pill. A zap form this lighting can heavily injure a Dou Zong. Require Spirit level soul power in order to gain the spirit ki (similar to reiatsu) and put it into the pill.
9th ranked Precious Pill: Black lightning appear , one Zap from this lighting could easily killed a Dou Zun 6 stars, soul power must be Tian level.(basically there are 4 levels: Ren, Ling, Tian, Di)
9th ranked Black Pill: Pill Rain appears and the pill must absorb spirituality to form, the black lightning is more powerful.
Di ranked: Di level soul, the "missing elements" and of course, the method, a very rare and strange phenomenon will appear.
Terminal Blaze/Flame Mantra
It is revealed early on that Yao Chen did not invent this Dou Qi Method but actually discovered it in a cave with Venerable Feng. When Xiao Yan encounters Emperor Tuo She, he also reveals that he also practised the Qi method which helped him become Dou Di and wonders who its original creator was.
It is never revealed who the founder of this Qi Method is. One of the series mysteries.
